What We're Watching in July

Our hearts break as we learn that NBC cancels "Good Girls" after just four seasons.

With only five episodes left in season 4 of the incredible series, let's take you back to the original trailer:

The series was made up of a talented cast including Reno Wilson, Isaiah Stannard, Matthew Lillard and Lidya Jewett. 

In the final season, the storyline revolved around the Secret Service closing in on the main characters' antics and counterfeit ring. A marriage may become salvaged, a spa company may become a front, and criminal paths are defined. The remaining episodes will premiere Thursdays at 9 P.M. EST. 

"Good Girls" wasn't the only show to be axed from the '20-'21 season. Here a few others that recently got the boot by NBC:

NBC Cancels "Good Girls"

We're still getting over Steve Carrel's performance in Apple TV+'s The Morning Show. So... how is he going to top it?

Amazon Studios just announced that, in partnership with Mandeville Films, they've cast Carell in Antti's Toumainen's film adaptation of The Rabbit Factor. 

The dark comic novel follows insurance mathematician Henri Koskinen as he calculates life's hardest problems - most literally. The story picks up when he's fired from his job and inherits a theme park from his brother. The chaos surrounds the parks' inability to perform as it sees incredible financial problems (stemming from criminal elements) and misbehaved employees. When the bills begin to fall behind - the criminals in which loans were taken from, come back to settle their debt.

David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman will be producing alongside Mandeville Film's Alex Young. Both the author and Federico Ambrosini will be executive producers.

Alongside this project - Carell is set to star in Netflix's Season 2 of Space Force, and will be the voice of Gru in Illumination's Minions: The Rise of Gru. 

Steve Carell To Star in Amazon Prime's 'The Rabbit Factor’

Can you believe that we've already come to 10 seasons of American Horror Story? Wow. The ever evolving cast and incredible storyline has taken us for quite a ride - introducing us to the twisted worlds and fanasty of Ryan Murphy and the FX network crew. And to bring the journey even further - the network announced the casting of Neal McDonough for season 10's *American Horror Story: Double Feature*. 

For reference - you might recgonize Neal McDonough from Netflix's Altered Carbon or Robert Zemeckis' Project Blue Book.

McDonough is set to play the 34th U.S. president (under a similar name). The series is rumoured to take place in Provincetown, MA.

He'll be joining new and reoccuring faces including Finn Wittrock, Lily Rabe, Macaulay Culkin, Frances Conroy, Evan Peters, Leslie Grossman, Billie Lourd, Sarah Paulson, Adina Porter, and Angelica Ross.

The series will premier Wednesday, August 25th on FX - available on Hulu and FX.

Neal McDonough Cast in American Horror Story Season 10

Michael Peña is joining as co-star to Owen Wilson in the upcoming Paramount feature film - Secret Headquarters. The entire cast lineup includes Kezii Curtis, Walker Scobell, Keith L. Williams, Momona Tamada, and Abby James Witherspoon.

We know Peña from a slew of hit movies like The Adam Project (Netflix) and Tom & Jerry (Lionsgate). He's repped by CAA.

The movie will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by duo Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. The current draft was written by Joost Schulman & Josh Koenigsberg.

So - what's all of the hype about? Based on the screenplay by Christopher Yost (best known for The Mandalorian), the family action movie is about a child who discovers the ultimate superhero who lives under his own house. His job is then to protect the superhero from the villains who plan to attack his new friend.

The film is set to premier on August 12, 2022.

Michael Peña Added to Paramount's Secret Headquarters Cast

Can you believe it's been almost 4.5 years since Stranger Things first entered our lives? Time flies. Today Netflix revealed their cast additions to this season to stir the pot even further. The line up for Season 4 will include - Amybeth McNulty, Myles Truitt, Regina Ting Chen, and Grace Van Dien.

What does this mean for the storyline? Here's the breakdown:

* Amybeth will play "Vickie" - a potential love interest of one of our favorite characters and band nerd. You know Amybeth from Netflix's Anne with an E - and she most recently appeared in the indie feature - Black Medicine.

* Grace plays Chrissy - a popular cheerleader with a brewing secret. Grace Van Dien is a season regular on NBC's The Village and Netflix's Umbrella Academy.

* Myles is cast as Patrick - a popular basketball player with a twisted personal life. Myles Truitt is best known in his Starz/Lionsgate role on Black Maficia Family, and OWN's Queen Sugar.

* Regina will portray a loving guidance counselor at school. Chen is best known from Queen of the South and Dynasty.

Phew!

So what else do we know about season 4? The first trailer dropped hints of Hopper's return (who we thought may have been dead) and the second trailer showed Dr. Martin Brenner making a cameo appearance. Here are the two trailers:

The series is created by Matt & Ross Duffer (writers, directors, and EP's), and produced by Monkey Massacre and 21 Laps Entertainment.

Netflix's Stranger Things Announces New Cast Members

After much shopping last week, Netflix secured the screen rights for an adaptation of We Used to Live Here, originally authored by Marcus Kliewer on Reddit. What (possibly) made Netflix jump so quickly? Our guess has to do with the wonderful Blake Lively and the lure of producing a movie off of a simple Reddit post. Set to be executive produced under Lively's B for Effort company - along with Ground Control entertainment - the agreement was made through 6th & Idaho's first look deal with Netflix.

Also - a big thing to note here - Reddit?! Yes - the anonymous social network has incredible works being created by their users. Enough to make a splash in the streamer world, too. A part of Reddit's r/nosleep thread - the novella is about the history of someone's childhood home and the new homeowners that live there. It's a four part "series" with only 2.4k upvotes and less then 200 comments. Woah, indeed. 

Dan Kagen is set to co-produce along Lively and Kate Vorhoff. Book rights are rumored to be auctioned off in the coming months.

10 Amazing LGBTQ+ Movies & Series To Watch During Pride Month

Ooooooooh! Who lives in a.... rock?... under the sea... Patrick Star! While it's not the traditional theme song you're used to, it's the new one you'll be hearing. Nickelodeon just arguably dropped the biggest news in 20-something years - The Patrick Star Show. Bill Fagerbakke is back as the voice of Patrick Star, but this time in the spotlight.

The 13 episode series is set to focus on our favorite starfish and his entire starfish family. But don't worry - the original cast is still promised to make an appearance. Veteran voices include Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy Cheeks), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward Tentacles), and Mr. Lawrence (Plankton). New cast members include Tom Wilson (Patrick dad, Cecil Star), Cree Summer (Patrick's mom, Bunny Star), Jill Talley (Squidina Star, Patrick's little sister), and Dana Snyder (GrandPat star, Patrick's grandpa). 

The Spongebob spinoff is executive produced by the original team, Marc Ceccarelli, Vincent Waller and Jennie Monica, and developed by the SVP of Animation Development - Claudia Spinelli. The production is overseen by VP of Current Series - Kelley Gardner.

“The Patrick Star Show” will debut this July on Nickelodeon, produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios.

Bill Fagerbakke Re-Cast In The Patrick Star Show By Nickelodeon

It's time to wake up members of 'iCarly' nation and hit the play button on the new trailer. If you haven't heard already - iCarly is being rebooted by Paramount+ and we couldn't be more excited to see what the new series has in store for us. 

Featuring almost the entire original cast - Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor and Nathan Kress - we'll be seeing a lineup of new members as well. Playing Carly's roommate Harper (because Carly is an adult now... gasp) is Laci Mosley, and Jaiydn Triplett is set to play Miccicent - Freddies snarky stepdaughter. We have so many questions.

If you need a bit of a refresh - it's been about 10 years since the hit show iCarly saw it's last episode. The original series looked into the life of an influencer and her road to internet stardom, supported by her friends and family. The reboot is set to follow Carly as an adult - navigating life, love, and friendship. But this time she won't have the pear phone (boo!!).

The only original iCarly star to not make an appearance is Jennette McCurdy - who has since quit acting. Noah Munck - who played Gibby Gibson - will not be appearing either. 

The series is produced by AwesomenessTV and Nickelodeon Studio with the help of Jay Kogen and Ali Schouten. Cosgrove will also be an executive producer on the show. Fun fact - Phill Lewis - aka Mr. Moseby  on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody - will be executive producing the show as well. 

The first three episodes will premiere on June 17th, with ten more episodes to follow.

iCarly Trailer Released Featuring Original Cast

Hey Upper East Siders - I don't think you're ready for this trailer of Manhattan's elite. Well... version 2 that is.

HBO Max premiered their reboot trailer of the popular CW series, Gossip Girl. While headbands and Henri Bendel won't be making a return to your TV, the stories following the richest children in Manhattan will. And Kristen Bell's voice will be there to bring you along for the ride. 

While we don't have much detail on the storyline of this new version - our hopes are high. We anticipate the series incorporating modern day life - such as social media impact, New York dynamics, and Ubers versus limos. So... may we present to you - the Gossip Girl 2.0 trailer:

HBOMax Reveals Gossip Girl Reboot Trailer

The Rock is on fire this year with new content. His production company, Seven Bucks, just announced the more recent credit to be added to his casting resume - a DC League movie. The animated series, Super-Pets, will star DC canine "Krypto" voiced by The Rock. Super cool!

If you don't know already - the adventure-action series is an adaptation by Warner Brother's Animation Group. The movie is the first in the DC series to follow's Superman's best friend. The rest of the cast line-up will be announced later this Spring.

In addition to Rock's production company, the movie will be co-produced by Jared Stern, Patricia Hicks, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia. The original movie from the D.C. Superman universe was created by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel.

Super Pets is set to hit theatre's on May 20, 2022.

Having a great monologue is essential for anyone looking to become a professional actor. Most actors have their "go-to" monologues that not only show off their skills but are versatile for a variety of settings.

A lot rides on having the "perfect" monologue. No pressure! So - how do you pick the right monologue? While there's not one right answer, there are many great options for choosing the perfect monologue... but today we’ll be focusing on what *isn’t* perfect. 

Here are a couple monologues elements to consider *staying away from*.

**1. The “I Remember When” Story**
A monologue centered around a real life story about your life isn’t dynamic enough. It’s not about sharing a story about a time you did something or how something made you feel. Casting Directors are looking for how you can turn a small piece of life into a much brighter moment. 
		
Two important elements that you should have in a monologue is both connection and conflict, which is something usually lacking from “I remember when” stories. Don’t tell us the story of a really bad date you went on, act out the date instead. 

**2. Trying To Be Something You’re Not**
If you are a 21 year-old college student, your go-to monologue shouldn't showcase you the role of a 50 year old retired firefighter. *Makes sense, right?* Even if you’re trying to showcase a range, it’s better to stick to something familiar that can be done well rather than something that hasn't been perfected. 

Focus on showcasing your strongest persona and what you do best. Finding your own persona may be hard but be honest with yourself about which personas you can play best. 

**3. A Novel **
It’s a monologue, not a novel. Every great monologue should follow an arc, but this doesn’t mean it should take 15 minutes to recite. The longer the monologue, the less likely your audience is to listen.

Shorter monologues that are well done is more memorable than a mediocre one that lasts 3 minutes. It’s not about doing as much as you can with your time but doing the best you can do with the time you have.

Monologues to Avoid as an Actor

Darnesh from Silicon Valley is back! Well... kinda. Hulu just announced their newest limited series - Immigrant - set to star actor, Kumail Nanjiani. The story follows an Indian-American entrepreneur who ventured to start Chippendales. Hulu announced that the comedic series will be both dark and full of crime fully depicting the true story of what became a phenomenon.

For those of us who may not be aware - Chippendales started their dance troop in 1979 quickly becoming synonymous with bachelorette parties. Today, the Chippendales headquarters hosts millions of women every year at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.  

Kumail is set to star as the original founder, Somen "Steve" Banerjee. Robert Siegel is set to produce the series alongside other big writing names including Emily V. Gordon, Mehar Sethi, Dylan Sellers, and Christ Parker. Siegel - who inked a deal with Hulu - is set to produce other similar "based on a true story" series including "Pam & Tommy" which follows the sex tape ordeal of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.

What is arguably the best era of the long-running teen drama is coming back for the ultimate pannel. ATX Television Festival just announced that a handful of the cast members from Degrassi: The Next Generation will be doing a Q&A, revisiting old scenes and storylines. Eeek! 

The panel is set to premiere on June 11th as part of a commemoration of 20 years since it's original premiere. The festival confirmed the attendance of EP Stephen Stohn, Executive Producer Linda Schuyler, Stefan Brogren, and the incredible cast members including Jake epstein, Shane Kippel, Aislinn Paul, Luke Bilyk, Munro Chambers, Lauren Collins, Andrea Lewis, Daniel Cark, and Christina Schmidt. Our inner fangirl is waiting for them to confirm Drake, Miriam McDonald, and Shenae Grimes as well, but we won't get our hopes up.

The TV fest - which runs from June 11th through June 20th - will feature other rainmakers and conversations with network and studio leaders Karey Burke (President, 20th Television), Christina Davis (Starz), Tina Perry (President, OWN), Jana Winograde (Showtime Networks), Sarah Aubrey (HBO Max), Lisa Katz (NBCU).

Degrassi: TNG To Host Reunion at ATX Television Festival

Anyone else a <i>Succession</i> fan here? If you grinned and said "heck yeah", then the Casting Depot team has some awesome news for you about the upcoming season. 

HBO just announced the newest cast lineup and they've added a familiar face to the team. Adrien Brody, Oscar winner and producer, is set to play a character that gets in the middle of the Waystar Royco family war. His character - Josh Aaronson - is a billionaire activist with plans of stirring up some serious drama.

In addition to Brody, new cast members include Linda Emond, Hope Davis, Alexander Skarsgård, Sanaa Lathan, and South Korean singer and actress Jihae. You'll also see some old faces including Justine Lupe (Connor's girlfriend Willa), Fisher Stevens (the crisis manager), and David Rasche (CFO Karl Muller) - all of whom have been promoted to season regulars. 

Yes - this means we MAY get to finally see Willa's Broadway play. Yes - this means we may get answers to Kendall finally stealing the business away from Logan. Yes - this means you should get the popcorn ready.

Season three is already filming in New York - directed by Cathy Yan and Lorene Scafaria.
